Hailing from Eugene, Oregon, our very own Cherry Poppin’ Daddies will be hitting the Whiteside Theatre on Friday, Sept. 21 at 9pm (doors open at 7pm). After meeting in college, lead singer Steve Perry and bassist Dan Schmid discovered their mutual love for music and left the University of Oregon to pursue their musical career. The band now contains eight members and has made eight albums. The band likes to experiment with various infusions of music styles, but all of their music has a swing base tone. They have dabbled in adding ska, blues, punk, rock, and rockabilly among many others. Their newest album, “Skaboy JFK,” focuses exclusively on the combination of swing and ska music. Steve Perry announced in January that their next album will be primarily swing, but with an added kick of rockabilly and psychobilly.
The concert is hosted by 2 Towns Ciderhouse in coordination with a release party for their “Cherry Poppin’ Cider.” Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/263396.
