Goat Yoga creator Lainey Morse

Yoga in the United States has become wildly popular in the past couple of decades. One could blather on about the host of physical and mental benefits of the practice, but we’ll save that for the New Years issue. If you’re one of the 37 million people who practice yoga, you might be looking for a way to shake up your practice a little bit. Read on to discover yoga offerings in Corvallis and Albany that are sure to relax and re-energize.

Acrobatic Yoga
If you are looking for a way to actually turn your yoga practice upside down (while balanced on someone’s feet) acrobatic yoga might be right up your alley. This playful practice is an exercise in trusting your fellow human and can make you discover that you are more capable than you once thought. According to AcroYoga International, the practice “combines the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power of acrobatics and the loving kindness of healing arts.” Participants can fly, base, or spot. Fliers are often balanced on the base in some way and the spotters provide assistance and safety while getting into or out of the poses. The poses range from strength-heavy and dynamic to relaxing and therapeutic. Curious? Check out some of the offerings in Corvallis and Albany!

Ecstatic Dance embodies the phrase “dance like no one’s watching.” A skilled DJ curates some highly danceable tunes and participants are able to get out of their heads and into their bodies. There are no routines and no set movements—you just dance how your body feels called. Participants are asked to leave their shoes, phones and drugs out of the dance space to allow everyone to enjoy a comfortable and judgement-free experience. The event is family friendly and has quite the following in Corvallis. Prior to the Ecstatic Dance class is a warm-up yoga class that is complimentary with entry into the Ecstatic Dance, or $5 as a stand-alone practice.
