Tap Talks: The Cultural Shift Towards Hops

The third installment of Block 15 Brewery and Tap Room’s new Tap Talks will take place on Monday, March 6 at 7 p.m. at their Southtown location. On deck for this month’s talk is Oregon State University Professor of Fermentation Science and internationally recognized expert on beer chemistry, Dr. Tom Shellhammer.

The question at hand: Why are consumers so enamored with hoppy beer? Dr. Shellhammer will be sharing his passion for beer culture, and address the recent shift towards hops and away from the old, pale, fizzy American beer. Come discover why the IPA is the reigning champion of popular demand. Any questions about the smell of your beer, seasonal trends, and hop chemistry, he’s got you covered.

The discussion begins at 7, but Block 15 advises arriving early, as February’s “Climate Conversation” event starting packing customers in early. Tap Talks occur at the beginning of each month, with rotating topics of beer, food, agriculture, and the environment. This event is free and open to the public.
