Well, folks, it’s about that time to get your green on and get to jigging. Whatever your religion, St. Patrick’s Day is known by many, especially in this college town, as another excuse to drink. Corvallis has plenty of that going around already, but this month you get to expand your palate with Irish stouts, strange green concoctions, and whiskey. Fancy going out for dinner on March 17? You’ll be hard-pressed to find a restaurant not serving corned beef and cabbage and playing some sort of cheesy Irish tune. Besides all that, here are the standouts for this year’s celebration:
Friday, March 17
Celtic Harp and Guitar. Fireworks Pub & Pizza, 1115 SE 3rd St. 4 – 9 p.m. Perhaps a bit lower key, Fireworks in Southtown is hosting live Celtic harp and guitar from Sharon and Dave Thormahlen. Admission is free, but reservations are highly recommended.
St. Patrick’s Day Across the Land. McMenamin’s, 420 NW 3rd St. 4 –
10:30 p.m. Featuring two bands, Coastline and The Noted, for their annual celebration. They’re also bringing Irish dancers to top off their Irish stout, Irish Reuben, and Irish stew. This event is free and open to all ages.
Shamrock Games Carnival. Good Shepherd Lutheran School and Childcare, 1910 SE 34th Ave., Albany. 6 – 7:30 p.m. At a games night for St. Patrick’s Day, however brief the event, it’s always worth trying the luck of the Irish. Ticket prices range for games, but include meals and a photo booth.
Cloud & Kelly’s Outdoor Block Party. Cloud & Kelly’s, 126 SW 1st St. 6 p.m. Over at the Irish pub down the street, Cloud & Kelly’s will host an outdoor party complete with three acts, The Nettles, Irish Dancers, and The Incompatibles. This event has a $5 cover.
Saturday, March 18
Run to Get Lucky. Cloud & Kelly’s, 126 SW 1st St. 12:30, 1 & 1:30 p.m. Sponsoring Corvallis’ fifth annual Run to Get Lucky 15k, 5k, 1 mile, and 1k race on the waterfront this year. Finishers will receive a pint glass and food from Cloud & Kelly’s will be available for purchase. Register early and receive a shirt. Registration is available day of, but sans shirt.
St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Concert. Russell Trip Performance Center at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. 2 – 4 p.m. The Willamette Valley Concert Band is performing and they have a lineup of Irish and Scottish classics, topped off with bagpipes. This event is free, but donations are welcomed.
