LGBTQ Events: Dance the Winter Blues Away

January might be the coldest month, but here in Corvallis we have plenty of ways to keep your heart racing. Between drag shows, dance parties, and a burlesque party, there is lots of fun to be had at these upcoming LGBTQ friendly events. Just because it’s drab outside that doesn’t mean you have to pack away your glitter until spring.

A Dam Right Anniversary
Dam Right Drag Night is turning 1, and everyone is invited! Dam Right Drag Night Presents: Cake on Cake is hosted by local drag legend Lucielle S. Balls. Stay after for a dance party with Rollipolli.

At The Peacock Bar and Grill, 125 SW 2nd St, January 11. Doors at 8 p.m., the show starts at 9pm. $5 cover, ages 21+.

A Tropical Birthday Party
Tarte of the Valley burlesque group is going into their fourth year performing together, and they’re not stopping anytime soon. “I love being a part of something so fun and creative, especially something that emphasises that everyone, no matter, size, shape, age, color or gender is beautiful,” Petunia Rufflebottom, Tarte’s Mistress of Ceremonies said when asked why she enjoys burlesque.

The Tartes, Petunia Rufflebottom, Starena Sparktacular, Miss Rosie Posie and Schatzie Babe A’licious, perform two full-stage shows per year at The Majestic Theater, and they recently started doing bar shows at Bombs Away Cafe.

Petunia described their next show as a fun tropical birthday party. “Since it is right around Starena’s birthday we wanted to have that theme and I’ve always loved having a tropical party in the dead of winter.” Even better, audience members are encouraged to dress up, which makes the bar show games, burlesque acts, and raffle even more fun. “We end our bar performances with a dance party too,” she added. Well this sounds like an excuse to pull out that sequined onesie and have a pina colada or two

At Bombs Away Cafe, 2527 NW Monroe Ave, January 13 at 10 p.m., $7 cover, ages 21+.

Not Your Mother’s Drag Show
Haus of Dharma provides “local groundbreaking gender performance art entertainment while working to empower and provide services for the LGBTQ+ community, especially those individuals on the trans* and gender non-conforming spectrums.”

At their next drag show in January, they will be joined by The Farce Family, “Eugene’s premier alternative queer performance collective.”

At Cloud and Kelly’s Public House, 126 SW 1st St, January 19 at 10 p.m., $5 cover, ages 21+.

Dance Your Pants Off at Rainbow in the Clouds
Mark your calendars for the next Rainbow in the Clouds LGBTQ friendly dance party! The gang is taking a break in January, but beginning February 2nd the party happens on the first Friday of every month.

At Cloud and Kelly’s Public House, 126 SW 1st St, February 2 at 10:30 p.m., $5 cover, ages 21+.

It’s time to lace up your dancing shoes, or practice walking in those 6-inch heels, and join us for all the fun that is to be had this winter in your town.
