Following our last poetry open mic night, many moons ago – and the great impact we saw on the faces of our audience – was a spark that started a brain fire: What if we dedicated an entire issue to local poets, of all ages and backgrounds? Before long, staff writer and poet, Kiki Genoa and I were paired up as editors and, viola! Here we are. But there’s more…
Not just poems, we asked Linn-Benton locals to submit artwork, featured throughout these pages. We also plan to distribute this issue during our upcoming Poetry Open Mic Night, at Cloud and Kelly’s this Sunday.
We encourage all poets and poetry enthusiasts to grace or gaze at the mic this weekend. And we extend our gratitude to all those who submitted to this issue. It’s been a privilege getting to know you, at least the parts you bravely exposed through these pieces.
Poetry Open Mic Night starts at 7 p.m., Sunday, November 19, at Cloud & Kelly’s Public House, 126 SW 1st St, Corvallis. Poets are asked to keep to a maximum of 10 minutes or less on stage. Sign-up begins at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.
