Jordan World Circus will perform at Benton County Fairgrounds on October 25, and animal welfare activists will be waiting with a peaceful protest.
Brittney West, a local artist and animal-welfare activist, is planning the protest with the Vegans & Vegetarians at Oregon State University to draw attention to the cruelty and poor conditions the performance animals endure regularly.
“The majority of the cruelty is behind the scenes,” states West. “Although, you can witness the animals in distress during the circus, if you know the behavioral signs.”
According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Jordan World Circus does not possess an exhibitor license from the USDA, after the circus was cited for numerous violations under the Animal Welfare Act throughout the 14-year period between 1993 and 2007. The Las Vegas company has had to resort to renting animal acts.
Protests will begin at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
