Harry Potter diehards, get ready. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the eighth installment of J.K. Rowling’s critically acclaimed series, hits bookshelves this week, and Grassroots Bookstore is throwing a party. On Sunday, July 31 from 11 a.m. to noon, head over to Grassroots with your robes, wands, and Harry Potter trivia knowledge. The party doubles as a birthday bash for the (not so) wee Potter, who in the world of witchcraft and wizardry is turning 34.
The first 15 people in line at Grassroots will get a box of the coveted Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans along with a raffle ticket. If you’re in costume, you’ll be given another raffle ticket for a chance at winning a number of prizes or potentially the grand prize. Once there, grab some Harry Potter stickers and temporary tattoos, play some trivia, and color in a page from the Magical Creatures Coloring Book.
And don’t forget the real prize—your very own copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This newest installment steers away from traditional form; the story is a two-part play. The play’s opening night is Saturday, July 30 at London’s Palace Theatre. The script will then be released to the world at midnight.
The play itself has already undergone its preview period, an eight-week public rehearsal that began on June 7, where the script was subjected to tweaks in stage direction, annotations, and line changes. These changes will all be included in the definitive script, to be released early in 2017, about six months prior to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’s 20th anniversary.
