By Dave DeLuca
Richard “Rick” Steves is an expert on traveling. He is the author of several guidebooks, including Europe Through the Back Door, and hosts the OPB televisions series Rick Steves’ Europe. You can also hear him at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Circle Boulevard.
Steves won’t be talking about Parisian hostels, Vespas, or the best gelato in Venice, however. “The Travel Man” will be using his celebrity to encourage you to vote yes on ballot measure 91 in the upcoming November election. Steves is an outspoken proponent of legalized marijuana. He has worked with the ACLU to produce a TV show on the topic and been a board member of the National Organization of Marijuana Laws (NORML) since 2003. He has studied the way different European nations deal with the sticky subject of legal cannabis and will be sharing his experiences.
Rick Steves will be appearing at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis on Thursday, Oct. 9 at noon. For more information, go to www.uucorvallis.org or www.ricksteves.com.
