For many of us locals it seems like Squirrel’s Tavern has been serving up tasty Squirrel burgers and Beervana from the corner of 2nd Street for forever. Yes, 1974 was that long ago. Owner Greg Little and his crew have decided that this many successful years in the bar biz is cause for major celebration, and they’ve invited everyone to their 40th anniversary bash set for Sunday, Aug. 31. This two-day fiesta includes all the beer, wine, hard cider, food, and live music you can handle for just $45. Plus there will be an all-day shuttle service to take guests from Squirrel’s out to Adair Park, where the party will continue with free camping and breakfast the next morning.
Four bands are scheduled to perform on Sunday. Blues/funk/hip-hop band Puff Puff Beer will get the festivities started, followed by locals the Creighton Lindsay Band. Special guest Poco’s Paul Cotton will perform later in the evening, and North Carolina’s Southern Culture on the Skids is set as the headliner.
“I’m just really excited to have made it this far, and we’ve had such strong local support,” Little said. “I’ve got a career going now.”
Squirrel’s 40th anniversary party is from 1 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31. Tickets are $45. For more information, call 541-753-8057.
