The Local Food System Ordinance of Benton County scored a major victory against GMOs yesterday. Its dedicated volunteers have guaranteed the petition will collect enough signatures to meet the Wednesday, August 6 deadline to qualify for the May 15, 2015 ballot. This ballot will not only allow residents the right vote to ban GMOs, but also choose a food system that works best for their needs.
To applaud the efforts of volunteers, supporters and those who have made donations, or shared knowledge and materials on the subject, there will be a Local Food Rights Kick-Off Celebration on Thursday, July 24 at the Avery Park Lions Shelter from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome. If you’re unable to attend this event and would like more information on the measure visit www.bentonccrc.org.
