The first installment of Corvallis Advocate Community Movie Night was a rousing success. And if you missed the fun, you’ll have to live with that regret forever. Burns, doesn’t it? The good news is that it’s a weekly thing, so you can fill that hole of regret this Tuesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. with our second screening, the classic John Wayne western, McLintock!
Just to be clear, I didn’t end that sentence with an exclamation point out of excitement—the title of the film has it. Because this film is an example of what Cosmo Kramer would describe as “unbridled enthusiasm.”
John Wayne plays GW McLintock, a lovable cattle baron who’s trying to wrangle the return of his estranged wife and his daughter who’s returning home from school, as well as the interests of everyone in town. McLintock! also stars a young Stephanie Powers as the Duke’s daughter Becky, Maureen O’Hara as his wife Katherine, and of course a small sampling of the Western character stalwarts of the era, Chill Wills, Strother Martin, and Hank Worden.
This classic is a rollicking upbeat comedy, perfect for the summer and the whole family. Can you think of a better way to beat the heat?
McLintock! will screen at the Darkside Cinema on Tuesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. Admission is free for the whole family, though a small donation is welcomed.
