New York City, San Francisco, Portland, and finally, Corvallis. That’s right, we’ve hit the big time. Come June, our fine city will have its own cupcake cart, which will sell its scrumptious treats at the Saturday market and downtown by Starbucks on select days.
Husband and wife cupcake aficionados Cheyne and Sha Sha Willems—aka BFF Cupcakes, who provide cupcakes for the Majestic’s monthly Drink and Draw—will offer two varieties of cupcakes per day at $3 a pop. Current hits include pistachio rosewater with a black cherry icing, sweet potato with marshmallow root frosting, margarita, and Mexican hot chocolate. A cupcake stamp card is in the works—buy six, get the seventh free—and special orders of a dozen or more will be available seven days a week. Non-profits will be happy to know they get a discount on their special orders, and anyone can get their special order delivered by a fossil fuel-free transportation method for a small additional fee (otherwise orders are available for pickup at the cart).
The cart in the past operated as an all-beef hot dog stand. The irony of its new role providing baked goods made without dairy or eggs is not lost on Sha Sha, who sees the animal-free nature of the cupcakes “to simply be an added bonus rather than their defining quality, because in the end it’s their flavor, texture, and presentation that matter most.” Her love of cupcakes is practically infectious.
“Our cupcakes are gourmet little works of art, made with love, she said. “We use natural, organic, and locally sourced ingredients and no artificial dyes, colors, or flavors, of course.”
The cart should be making its appearance at the Saturday market sometime in mid-June, and may even show up at Madison and 4th by the end of the month. Visit Best Friends With Cupcakes for updates.
