Corvallis’ fifth annual Culinary Week is coming up! From Sunday, Jan. 20 to Saturday, Jan. 26, stop by a select number of restaurants downtown to indulge in a $10 specialty plate. Nine restaurants are participating: Aqua, Big River, Cloud and Kelly’s Public House, Del Alma, 101, Luc, Fireworks, Magenta, and Terminus.
Besides being a great excuse to break out of our mid-winter bunkers, Culinary Week is first and foremost a way to explore the higher-end foodie scene without breaking the bank. Many of the restaurants offer two different plates, often with a vegetarian option (this also means diners can return to their favorite place and try a different dish the second time around). For instance, last year Del Alma offered a whopping three specialty dishes—shrimp and grits with veggies, vegetarian crepes, and pork spare ribs with veggies and rice. From a place where entrees typically range from $18 to $34, $10 is a steal.
“The middle of January is not the busiest time for restaurants, so it’s a good little boost for the downtown restaurant scene,” notes Del Alma’s front house manager, Nick Kubli. It’s also become quite the attraction. “For places that do accept reservations, it always is recommended, just because it is such a popular event.” Local hotels are even offering Culinary Week discounts to lure in out-of-towners. Check in with Holiday Inn Express, Hilton Garden Inn, and Comfort Suites to learn more about their specials.
