On May 30, jazz lovers in our area can enjoy a double billing of the Oregon State University Jazz Bands. Jazz Band I is an 18-member “Big Band,” directed by Ryan Biesack. The auditioned ensemble performs classics by such artists as Duke Ellington, Gordon Goodwin, and Pete McGuinness. Jazz Band II, also known to local venues as “The Shed Masters,” is directed by Neal Grandstaff. The band is a smaller, non-auditioned ensemble featuring musicians from campus and community. The band performs jazz by popular artists like Herbie Hancock and Charlie “Bird” Parker.
Admission is $10 at the door. OSU students, staff and faculty will be admitted for free with their ID card. OSU bands participate in Corvallis Arts for All, a program of the Corvallis Arts & Culture Commission, offering tickets at a reduced rate to residents in SNAP who hold an Oregon Trail Card. Those who qualify may purchase up to two tickets for $5 each at the door. For more information: http://oregonstate.edu/cla/music.
